Museums in Southampton

Há dois museus bem interessantes para conhecer em apenas um dia em Southampton.

O primeiro e mais conhecido é o Sea City Museum.

Conta a história do impacto na cidade com o desastre do Titanic. Há uma pequena réplica do navio, áudio do julgamento dos responsáveis que sobreviveram à tragédia e outras curiosidades. Por exemplo, o telefone que a tripulação usava para comunicar-se entre eles.

There are two very interesting museums to visit in just one day in Southampton.
The first and best known is the  Sea City Museum.

Tells the story of the impact on the city with the Titanic disaster. There is a small replica of the ship, audio of the judgment of those responsible who survived the tragedy and other curiosities. For example, the phone the crew used to communicate with each other.

No primeiro sábado de cada mês, você poderá subir no relógio da torre para conhecer um pouco mais sobre essa história e apreciar a bela vista da cidade.

On the first Saturday of each month, you can climb the clock tower to learn more about this history and enjoy the beautiful view of the city.

O segundo museu é o Solent Sky.

The second museum is the Solent Sky.

Não tão famoso como o primeiro, mas tão importante quanto. É pequeno e pertence a uma família que o mantém com as vendas dos ingressos. É quase uma coleção particular sobre a aviação britânica. Exibe algumas réplicas de aviões, uniformes e curiosidades sobre a guerra além de um exemplar de Sir Alliott Verdon-Roe, o “Monocar”.

Not as famous as the first, but very important one. It is small and belongs to a family that keeps it with ticket sales. It’s almost a private collection about British aviation. It shows some replicas of airplanes, uniforms and curiosities about the war besides a replica of Sir Alliott Verdon-Roe, the “Monocar”.

Em 20 minutos caminhando é possível ir de um museu ao outro. Recomendo que vá primeiro ao Solent Sky e depois ao Sea City. O primeiro é menor, a visitação é rápida.  Já o Sea City é maior, com lanchonete, loja de souvenirs e precisa de mais tempo para conhecer o museu. Verifique os horários no site para se programar antes de ir.  Não perca!

In 20 minutes walking you can go from one museum to the other. I recommend you to go first to Solent Sky and then to Sea City. The first one is smaller, the visitation is fast. The Sea City is bigger, with a snack bar, souvenir shop and you need more time to get to know the museum. Check the times on the site before you go.
